One of the oldest working watermills in North Yorkshire, still turned by the waters of the Eller Beck. Wander in, look round the Waterwheel House, and take a guided tour if you fancy one.

Seven hundred years of Skipton's working life, all in one building, and you can walk straight into it.
The mill sits beside the canal and runs on the waters of Eller Beck. Inside you can see how grain was milled, look over the machinery that did it, and hear the stories that built the place up.
It suits history buffs, families with an afternoon to fill, and anyone poking about Skipton for the day. It also costs nothing.
Free to everyoneThe Waterwheel House
Skipton's newest visitor attraction sits inside one of its oldest buildings.
It was opened by the Mayor of Skipton and the actress Hannah Hobley. Inside you can see the water turbine we had built, and how it feeds part of the town's electricity into the national grid. It makes enough for about twenty homes.
The viewing areas show some of the original corn machinery, and there is a second waterwheel you can turn yourself by pulling a lever that lets water out of the mill pond. Children rarely pull it only once.

We sit at the entrance to Skipton Castle Woods, just off the top of the High Street.
Walking from town
From the Town Hall, head up the High Street, cross at Mill Bridge and turn up Chapel Hill. The mill is on your left.
About five minutes on foot, and a nice walk beside the beck.

There is free parking on site, right by the shops.

A guided tour takes in the hydro workings, the restored machinery and the craft that built the place. We will tell you what the mill ground, who fought over it, and how it held the monopoly on Skipton's corn for five hundred years.
